Tick-borne
disease testing
- Did you know that ticks are prevalent in our area? Ticks
are known to transmit diseases such as Erlichia, Lyme, Rocky
Mountain Spotted Fever just to name a few. Some of these can
even be transmitted to your family. Follow the link below to
learn more about ticks and the diseases they transmit. [www.tickalert.com]

Cancer
screening / cancer chemotherapy
- It is a known fact that both dogs and cats are
susceptible to cancer. One in four dogs will develop cancer in
their lifetime and lymphoma is one of the most common cancers
found in dogs. The big problem with cancer in pets is that it
usually goes unnoticed until it is too late. When cancer is
discovered early, the chances of successful treatment are much
greater. Routine screening can improve cancer treatment by
helping diagnose tumors that might otherwise be missed.
Chemotherapy can be used to
great effect with some animal cancers. The same drugs are used
on animals that are used with humans. [www.pet-screen.com] |

Allergy screening
- Animals, just like people, can suffer allergic
reactions to a wide variety of environmental substances. Your
pets may be allergic to such things as pollens, flea bites, dust
mites, carpet fibers and even other pets.

Endoscopy
- In small animals, endoscopy is performed under general
anesthesia using a flexible fiber optic endoscope that is passed
into the mouth and then into the esophagus, stomach, and small
intestine for the examination of the upper part of the
gastrointestinal tract. Each area is carefully inspected for
abnormalities. The endoscope is attached to a light source, and
a lens allows visualization of the areas being examined. It also
has small channels through which biopsy forceps or retrieving
instruments can be passed. Biopsies are taken from areas that
appear abnormal, but also from areas that look normal, in many
cases diseases are found on biopsies in which tissues look
normal to the naked eye. |

 |
X-rays
- Radiographs (X-rays) play an important role in the diagnostic
aspect of many disorders, injuries, fractures, etc... which
cannot be seen from outside of your pets body. |
| |
 |
Electrocardiograms
- An electrocardiogram is a highly valuable diagnostic tool in
aiding in early detection of cardiovascular changes. This is key
for the prevention of heart disease as it allows time for a more
efficient treatment and correction in your pets lifestyle to
avoid or delay more serious problems. |
| |
 |
Blood pressure screening
- High blood pressure in our pets can be just as dangerous
to them as it can be to us. An increasing number of dogs and
cats are being diagnosed with this silent condition. Pets that
have been diagnosed with other medical conditions such as kidney
failure, liver problems and endocrine problems like feline
hyperthyroidism and canine hypothyroidism, are more likely to
have blood pressure abnormalities and therefore their blood
pressure should be monitored more closely. |

Ultrasonography
- Ultrasound is used to enhance other
diagnostic services such as radiography and pathology by
allowing better visualization of the interior organs such as the
heart, liver, and kidneys. It gives us better visualization of
structural integrity, discovery of tumors and the evaluation of
organ function. This technology can also alert us to
abnormalities in the abdominal cavity or lymph nodes that may
not be visible on radiographs. Ultrasound is a non invasive
procedure therefore minimizing the need for anesthesia or
sedation. |
| |
 |
Urinalysis
- Laboratory screening of urine is a diagnostic tool used to
detect the presence of one or more specific substances that
normally do not appear in urine, such as protein, sugar, white
blood cells or blood. A measurement of the dilution or
concentration of urine is also helpful in diagnosing diseases.
urinalysis can assist us in the diagnosis of urinary tract
infections, diabetes, dehydration, kidney problems and many
other conditions. |
